The end of September can be quite wintery and windy on the Rock Mountain Front, but we were very lucky this year and enjoyed a beautiful summer-like day on Ear Mountain on Sept. 25th. Laurel, Gerry, Frank, Lisa and Matt had a nice evening and night camping at Cave Mountain Campground the night before the climb. Ginger was also camped there and joined us for the evening around the campfire. Dell joined us in the morning at the trailhead for the climb. We hiked in from BLM’s Ear Mountain Trailhead and climbed up the predominate ridge on the northeast side of the mountain like Ralph Thornton showed us 2 years ago, using the goat trail to reach the west side of the mountain and dropping down to the large cleft that provides access to the top of the mountain. Just before reaching the cleft Gerry took a tumble and shredded his hand and arm on the sharp rocks. After some cleanup and application of gauze, he continued on. Our group strolled around the top of the mountain enjoying the perfect day before heading down and back out. Round trip distance was 12 miles with 4100 feet vertical gain. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
