The weather has been wonderful this late summer. The 18.3 mile traverse from Logan Pass to McDonald lake was a traverse seeing vegetation from early spring to late summer. We began our trip by meeting at McDonald Lake lodge and hired a driver to transport us to Logan Pass. We started the hike at 0815. Marmots welcomed us along the boardwalk to Hidden Lake overlook. Hiked down the lake and ford the Hidden Creek. With a windless day the mountain peaks reflecting from the lake like a mirror seeing large cutthroat trout swimming the near the surface feeding on the insects. Climbed up to the saddle overlooking Avalanche Basin and Monument Falls and preceded East Southeast until we had Mary Baker Lake and Floral Park in sight. Down to the lake for lunch, break and some soaked their feet in the cool water. We hiked to cross Sperry Glacier to the observation point down the rock stairs through Comeau Pass. The decent was with great views of Akaiyan Lake, Feather Woman Lake and falls. We proceeded down Gunsight Pass trail to McDonald Lake Lodge to end the day. Total distance 18.3 miles with our max elevation gain at Comeau Pass at 8089 feet, Elevation climb was 6271 feet, and decent was 9,712 feet. It was great hike and special thanks to Kelly Lynch, park ranker guest of Jane Holland for her vast knowledge of the area and assisting me leading the team in the right direction. This was successful because of the team, thanks for everyone there positive attitude and support. This is my highlight this summer. Glacier has so many favorites. The day end at 7:30 p.m.
