Write Up:
What a way to start the new year. It was a gorgeous day, sun shining through crystal clear skies, you could see forever. Not much snow the first couple miles on the trail, didn’t need our snowshoes until we were quite a ways up. We found more and more as we went on. Near the ridge top there were places we had to trudge through waist deep snow. I know it’s hard to believe since the valleys are all bare this year, but there is snow out there, you just have to work to find it. We had a very diverse group. Some longtime members and a couple who were on their very first GMS outting; Ages ranging from early thirties to mid sixties; Some very strong showshoers and some that hadn’t quite got there winter legs yet. As a result the group ended up stretching out with the last of us reaching the summit close to an hour after the trail breakers. But everyone made it and had a great time.
