Saturday 04 Feb 2012 eleven GMS members snowshoe up Elk Mountain. The day started off in with clear skies, with patchy ice fog, and minus 5 degrees. Temperatures throughout the day warmed up to the high 20’s. As we gain elevation the winds starting to pickup and wind chill was unbearable. The group made it to the false summit and we all agreed to not summit due the wind. We took a group picture from the false summit with Summit Mountain in the background. As we ascended down the mountain we were sheltered from the winds. The total distance of the hike was 5.4 miles with elevation gain of 5464 feet. It was a beautiful sunny day with good snow coverage all the way. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
