Saturday February 12, 2012 a stellar group of GMS members departed at 9:00 am on a snowshoe trip to Mount Furlong. The forecast was for “patches” of sun. True to its moniker the west remained “the dark side” and we failed to see the sun but enjoyed a successful climb. Participants included Jason Wilkes, Paul Cogswell, Sue Shannon, Jesse Manning, Jim Boyer, Larry Hiller, Ken McDermott, Caroline Clemans, and James Hulvat with coordinators Martin Valles and Dell Meuchel. We were fortunate enough to follow the trail broken by a previous group for about the first two miles. They detoured to the ridge top from the Edna Creek Trail and the trail up suddenly ended. The real work began with a big thanks to Martin, Larry and Jason for breaking trail. GPS skills provided by James kept us on track. If any of you have a chance to summit with Paul he is well prepared with everything in his pack, including the kitchen sink. The summit visit was brief with white out conditions and a cold breeze. The trip down was quickened by the promise of beverages, chips and salsa. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
