Sentinel Mountain - July 11, 2009 Coordinators: Bruce and Rhonda White My plan was to ford the Belly River at the Three Mile campsite and find the remnants of the Miche Wabun trail, then follow it until we intersected the northeast ridge of Sentinel Mountain. From there we would work our way up through the timber, staying on the ridge, eventually breaking out of the timber and brush. Then we would have a pleasant ridgewalk to the summit. As it turned out this approach worked well. We picked up the Miche Wabun trail and it was in much better condition than we expected. We also located a major game trail that connects the northeast ridge of Sentinel. A series of lesser game trails on the ridge helped us to negotiate the wooded section of the ridge then we broke out above timberline for an obvious ridgewalk to the summit. One of our crew brought a GPS and marked waypoints at each of the trail sections. That saved us a lot of trouble on the return trip. This turned out to be a great trip with everyone participating in the trail and route-finding process. Trip stats: approximately 18 miles and 4,700 feet of elevation gain. Sentinel climbers were: Greg Notess, Dell Meuchel, Martin Valles, Ken Nielson, Rhonda White, Ken McDermott, Bruce White, Larry Hiller, Steve Berg and Cole Schneider.
