Write Up:
On what look to be a rainy day, eleven GMS folks met for a hike through the Blacktail Hills on the south side of Glacier park. It was raining as we departed for the hike, but within fifteen minutes the rain stopped and from that time on we enjoyed a dry day, even though skies remained overcast. Flowers were abundant; however the bitterroot was just beginning to bloom. As with almost any hike in Glacier where one focuses on the flowers, we found those we didn’t recogize and thus we must spend some time with the flower guidebooks to identify them. We reached the summit of the Blacktail Hills shortly after noon before descending down a steep hillside to our cars. During our descent, we came upon a partially eaten calf elk which had appartently been killed by a grizzly. Ludkily, we didn't encounter the bear. As with any day in Glacier, it was enjoyed by all. Those participating were Dennis and Shirley Twohig, Jerry Moore, Bill and Marie Blunk, Darrel Coverdell (Coordinator), Mark Fields, Diane Boyd, Kim Aston, and George and Connie Schuler.
