Scenic Point to Appistoki Peak - July 16, 2012 Coordinator: Craig Swatland It was a beautiful cool day with blue skies and a few clouds — a good day for my first climb as a coordinator. I had two new GMSers on their first climb so I wanted it to go well. We cruised to Scenic Point and then saw a large group of sheep on the way up Medicine Peak. From there to the summit of Mount Henry, the clouds came and went. The sun shining through at times looked like a scene from a religious movie. Attitudes were great and the views did not disappoint. After lunch at the summit of Mount Henry, we headed to Appistoki and down. We missed the described ramp around to the east side of Appistoki and ended up route finding/climbing our way down its northern spine before dropping down to the streambed. We managed to amuse a large group of hikers on the Scenic Point trail when our trip coordinator fell into the stream and spent time lying on his back to drain his boots. We were back at the trailhead by late afternoon enjoying local Bozeman beer and salsa made in Livingston. The best part? Our two new GMSers were psyched and could not wait for their next climb. I look forward to coordinating my next trip! Climbers were: Craig Swatland, Nathan Carlsen, Jason Wilkes, Andrew Szabo, Peter Markalunas and Randy Peters.
