A dozen GMS members summited Grinnell Point on Gordon Edwards Climbing Day, which had been posted by the Park with a severe thunderstorm warning. Fortunately for us, this did not pan out until after we were back at the cars. This group was especially fun because there were two Junior Members with us: Sarah Schnaderbeck (age 10) and Logan Smith (age 12). Everyone did well, including Sarah and Logan. We ascended the south ramp with no issues and lunched at the Josephine Mine. We proceeded to the summit and enjoyed watching some mountain goats on top of a scary promontory of Grinnell Point working their way down a seemingly vertical cliff face. On the descent, we took an alternate route led by John Burnham down the old miner's trail that originally intersected with the Grinnell Glacier trail. We didn't find the exact intersection point but were able to follow the trail to an open gully and downclimb some Class 3 cliffs selected by Larry Hiller to the trail. Approx. total climbing time was 8 hours. Thanks to Larry Hiller for serving as co-coordinator (and for providing a well-crafted "plug" for Logan's bloody nose).
