Spot and Red Mountains – July 20, 2012 Coordinator: Paul Cogswell For a number of reasons, we only climbed Red Mountain which is a big day in itself. After time on the Dry Fork Trail, we grunted it out and some nice ridgewalking followed on the southeast ridge to the base of a short, challenging climb to the summit. The “made for climbing” ramp was found without difficulty. A brief search for hiking poles and some backtracking by those not inclined to follow the more fearless in the group caused some delay in reaching the lower ground as the unseen lightning caused booming thunder to echo through the valley. Thankfully all 12 made it back to the parking lot and found comfort in snacks and drinks and new friendships formed during the big day. Climbers were: Jim Schroeder, Sue Shannon, Peter Markalunas, Frank Wesolovski, Tom Farago, David King, Warren Lane, Dean and Kim Stensland, Jeff and Beth Maphis and Paul Cogswell.
