Gardner Point – August 24-25, 2012 Coordinator: Brian Kennedy After paddling two canoes up Kintla Lake, four of us enjoyed food, beer and a nice campfire in the comfortable campsite at the head of the lake the night before our climb. When four more GMS friends filled the remaining campsites and joined us at the fire, the evening's festivities soon rivaled traditional tailgate events that usually occur AFTER climbs. The next morning we took off for Upper Kintla Lake where we met the earlier-rising fellow campers hoping to climb Kinnerly Peak. Fresh snow up high changed their plans and they joined us en route to Gardner Point. Now eight strong, we located the correct off-trail approach after a route adjustment by the coordinator and a long gully took us to just below summit cliffs. Four remaining climbers negotiated a short Class 4 pitch to reach the summit ridge and soon stood on top. Last summit register entry was 2008 until Dell Meuchel, Frank Wesolovski, Caitlin Caltabiano and Brian Kennedy signed in. Also along for part of the climb and all of the fun at Kintla Lake were Bruce and Rhonda White, Larry Hiller and Jeff Young. The next day after a leisurely paddle back down calm Kintla Lake, we lounged on the sun-kissed beach and toasted another fine adventure.
