The prolonged fire season was quite evident as 7 GMSers began the trip to Cerulean Ridge on Sunday September 23, 2012. The usual spectacular views we come to expect at Bowman Lake were in a shroud of smoke. Jason Wilkes, Tim Anderson, Barbara Schwarz, Larry Hiller, Frank Wesolovski, guest climber John Reynolds and Dell Meuchel braved the smoke in a successful summit attempt. It was Frank’s second trip and Larry’s fifth to Cerulean. I was told by many who had previously made the journey the bush whack after the initial four miles on the Quartz Lake Trail was challenging. Frank and Larry discussed extensively the best spot to leave the trail. Now with seven trips between them that question is still unanswered. We all concluded there isn’t a “best “ place and the “whack” is the price you pay for the tremendous views that greet you with a successful climb. The plunge down form the ridge went quite well and we all concluded the climb with beverages, chips and salsa at Bowman Lake. My thanks to Larry, Frank and Tim for their advice and route finding efforts. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
