The snowshoe trip to Elk was in question all week because of high avalanche warnings and an avalanche on Elk on Tuesday. Six GMS members Dell Meuchel, Rick Thomas, Carly Putman, Jesse Manning, Jason Wilkes, Martin Valles and three guests John Reynolds, Jesse Uhde and Dustin Reynolds all met to challenge Elk. Temperature at departure was -2 but no wind. As we progressed up the south west ridge (trail breakers had helped from Saturday) the wind began to creep up and the cold was upon us. We made it to the hump before the final summit ridge and the summit was hidden by blowing snow along with very cold temperatures. We were satisfied with our trek and truned around, another day would always come. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
