There is so much about ski touring in the Flathead Range to like. Incredible terrain. The ability to find good snow on a variety of aspects. Checking out the wildlife tracks in the snow. Being able to access country that is otherwise nearly impossible to accesss without the generous coverage of snow. Great views into the park. Being able to share this with an enthusiastic GMS group makes it all the more special. Inspite of the recent high pressure with dry, sunny and windy conditions that resulted in sun crust, wind hammer and densely settled snow we were able to find excellent untracked skiing. You know things are going well when Brian skis down to you laughing. On our summer peak pagging trips we smile a lot but we don't typically laugh as we move along in the mountains. Thanks to Brian Kennedy, Denise Grabowski, Jeremy Rossman and Frank Wesolovski for another great day in the mountains. Oh, and we did bag a peak; Essex Mountain. Check out some photos on Picasa that Frank took. Safe winter travels to all. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
