Our grand tour of Appistoki was a loop route, ascending the NW face to its two summits; then descending to the saddle and into the upper cirque of Appistoki creek. We encountered a brief traffic delay on the South Shore Trail where a bear was feeding on a beehive next to the trail. The honey bear soon finished and we continued to the moose ponds, where we left the trail. After a short, fairly open bushwhack, we climbed above the cliff bands and traversed to the west ridge to gain the summit. An interesting route, but scree conditions were difficult. We could not avoid the stuff, so we basically had to “swim” to the top. The descent into Appistoki cirque was a pleasant stroll thru alpine meadows along a beautiful stream. Further down the valley, we traversed over to join the Scenic Point Trail and hiked to the road.
