Very strong group of climbers; Frank Wesolovski, Martin Valles,Dell Meuchel,Brian Kennedy, and Ken Nielson. The ford over Middle fork was shallow and the Coal Creek trail was frozen hard. Three hiked and three skied until the trail crossed Coal creek. After only two or three hundred yards we started up.Soon we were all on snowshoes and had a fairly easy time through the downfall and up the burn toward the right side or SE ridge. Just before we reached the ridge we had to ascend some fracturing and settling snow. The ridge had some difficult sugar snow, some large cornices and considerable exposure. We manage to reach the top, after much switching of leads, at 3:00 PM. Views were outstanding in all directions, Descending the upper ridge was especially senic with ST Nick and Cloudcroft peaks always in view. A fast decent got us down to the trail by 4:30. After long trudge we forded the Middle Fork about a half hour past dark. Round trip mileage was about 17 miles, elevation gain close to 5000' One of the most exciting and scenic GMS trips I've had the pleasure of. Thanks to all who participated and made this such a great day. Jack Beard Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album?
