Mount Morgan - July 22, 2009 Coordinator: Dell Meuchel The morning was warm and our group of 11 was excited about the prospect of climbing Morgan and McClintock in one day. The wildflowers were in all their glory with vistas of mixed purple, blue, gold and white on the way to Cut Bank Pass. Bear activity was evident in the area as the Two Medicine north shore trail was closed and several campers stopped us along the trail to discuss their bear encounters at Old Man Lake-imagine that! We took a well-deserved break at Pitamakan Pass. To the north was deep, blue Pitamakan Lake and to the south, Old Man Lake was shining in the sun. We proceeded to Cut Bank Pass and climbed McClintock - a 15-minute walk-up from the pass. James, Norris, and Medicine Grizzly dominated the views from McClintock. After a quick brunch, our crew headed back down to Cut Bank Pass and up the north ridge of Morgan. My thanks to Frank Wesolovski, Warren Lane and Bill Haring as they found the break in the cliff band which led to the summit. Some of our team was inexperienced on Class 4 terrain and they showed great patience in assisting all the climbers. Upon reaching Morgan's summit, we enjoyed the spectacular panorama: Jackson, Blackfoot, Stimson, Flinsch and Mount St. Nicholas. We carefully made our way off Morgan's summit and hiked back to the trailhead where refreshments and treats awaited. This able group included GMS members from West Virginia, New Jersey, Illinois and Montana. Morgan climbers were: Dell Meuchel, John Burnham, Rob Kealy, Tom Kotynski, Paul Cogswell, Bill Haring, Frank Wesolovski, Warren Lane, Peter Markalunas, Laurel Vielle and Martin Valles.
