Enjoying perfect weather Alice Ford, Jer Lundgren, Joy Hawley, Julie Stetter, and I set out to climb Daughter of the Sun Mtn in the Mission Mtns. The drive to the trail head is a little under two hours from Kalispell. That equates to about 45 deer per hour. The distance from the trail head to Turquoise Lake is about six miles. Leaving the trail at Turquoise Lake we ascended very nice ledges to the upper basin. From there a very difficult hard packed scree slope had to be climbed. Last year at about the same time there was still snow covering the scree. Once above the scree some quite fun boulder hopping took us to the skyline ridge which we followed to the summit. A slide has occurred on the ridge since last year. The ridge is made up of stacked up giant rubble. A little challenging, some loose rock, but mostly just quite fun! After enjoying lunch and summit views we descended by the same route. A Great Day!! Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
