Write Up:
Happily, the climb of Minesinger Ridge went according to plan. The coordinator managed to find the right starting place and from there lead a short section through steep grass and various forms of forest debris successfully to the ridge and a primitive trail. A bit of deadfall occasionally required some navigation over and around but the route continued going well, eventually giving way to jumbled rock, making for interesting climbing. The group attained the section of the ridge known as The Haystack which appears as a mountain summit visible from highway 93 south of Polson. From there the ridge continues and bends to the east and deeper into the northern Missions. On this ridge there are three secondary summits providing an interesting walk and locations for picnics and views. At the fourth and highest summit of the day, a rest break was taken, and then some continued on a 15 minute or so jaunt out to where the ridge finally ends overlooking many lakes and more area just asking to be explored in the future. Returning was a rehike back the way we came. Thanks to placement of a small ribbon and good routefinding by Sue the group ended up right on the landing where the vehicles and after hike refreshments were waiting. Comments indicated that the up and down along the ridge provided ample elevation gain for a days worth of exercise and that consensus was it was an enjoyable hike and a good day in the mountains.
