Coordinators: David Keim and Terry Sherburne Piegan Mountain is not known for its complexity, but for its good views and south-facing artesian well. Our group which included two kids under ten, chose to ascend and descend not a Park trail but the Lunch Creek Route which is well traveled due to its popularity. Once you have climbed above the Lunch Creek Falls, some mountaineering skills take over. We chose not to go back to the apex of the Lunch Creek bowl and up the apparent northeast snowfield but to climb up the southeast ridge, taking a fun and entertaining grand traverse which was a stairstep rock scramble across to the well-known saddle between Pollock and Piegan. From that vantage point, we took a southeast ridgewalk up to the summit. Great to be on another encouraging GMS kids climb. David Keim, Isaac Keim, Carson Keim, Della Somwaru, Guy Bateman and Terry Sherburne. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
