We started our day at 8pm the temperature 28F. I was looking forward to the usual cacophony of painful noises usually associated with a river crossing cold days. But soon realized every member of the team, other than myself, and arrived with full chest high fishing waders. So I was the only one complaining about the cold water.

The fall colors of the Nyack Valley were spectacular from this trail which affords the traveler great views about 90 percent of the time rather than being buried in trees like so many trails.

Most of the recent snow seemed to have melted away before our trip. We found a few small patches on some of the upper trial and about 6 inches for a short time as the trail spiraled around to the north side of the summit on the final approach.

We ate a short lunch at the lookout, not wanting to spend too much time as it was cloudy, breezy and cold, still only 30 when we reach the summit.

Soon after we started down the clouds finally broke and the sun came out lighting up the autumn leaves and turning larch.

It was a balmy 50 for our return crossings to the cars, where we hung out for a while to enjoy some chips and salsa in the sun.
