Buck Peak - September 5, 2009 Coordinator: Jim Valentine Eight GMS climbers attempted Buck Peak with six making the summit. Buck Peak at 9,003 feet is one of four mountains in the Swan Range over 9,000 feet. Total elevation gain for the climb was 6,000 feet as there was a 500-foot elevation loss before gaining the summit ridge. Buck Peak is directly south of Holland Peak and is easy to view from the Swan Highway. The summit ridge has some good Class 3 and 4 sections or one can drop off the ridge to the east and climb up to the summit through a Class 3 gully. Our group used both routes on the way up. Climbers were: Jeff Young, Lance Young, Paul Cogswell, Tom Nelesen, Jim Valentine and Richard Briles. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
